Umiltà 36
Darkly glamorous Art Deco-meets-contemporary. Black marble, moody lighting, gilded accents, bespoke vetiver fragrance by Luca Maffei. Think inter-war sophistication with a modern boutique hotel sensibility.

Why It Matters
Part of the Shedir Collection — a group of Rome luxury boutique hotels with serious design credentials. Four distinct dining venues on-site (including Argentine restaurant El Porteño and a rooftop bar), a curated contemporary art collection, and a location that genuinely is one block from the Trevi Fountain without being overrun by tour groups.
Umiltà 36 sits on a quiet, slightly curved side street one block from the Trevi Fountain — all the prime-location perks, none of the tourist crush. The hotel, formerly a political party headquarters for over 40 years, was redesigned by CaberlonCaroppi Studio and opened as a 5-star boutique property. Inside: black marble floors, Art Deco panelling, House of Hackney wallpaper, and a serious collection of contemporary art including geometric works by Russian artist Vasily Alekseyevich Vatagin and a bronze torso sculpture by Matteo Pugliese. Rooms lean residential — parquet floors, marble bathrooms, walk-in closets, and complimentary minibars. The vibe is 1930s speakeasy meets cosmopolitan city escape. Four dining venues (including a rooftop cocktail bar) make it very easy to never leave.
