Txai Resort
Rustic barefoot luxury. Indonesian-inspired wooden bungalows on stilts, open to forest and ocean. Low-key and unhurried — no lobby muzak, no pool attendants in uniforms. The kind of place where presidents visit for the privacy, not the glitz.
Request a hilltop Premium Bungalow for the private pool and treetop-meets-ocean view — worth the upgrade.
Why It Matters
Member of Relais & Châteaux and a Michelin-key recognized property. The Txaitaruga sea turtle conservation program (September–March) has protected over 110,000 turtles on the beach. Recognized as Serandipians 1st Grand Hotel Champion for 2026 and a Virtuoso Preferred property. Winner of the Relais & Châteaux Environment Trophy (2016).
A former coconut and cocoa farm turned barefoot-luxury resort on Bahia's Cocoa Coast. Txai sits on 92 hectares of Atlantic Rainforest inside the Itacaré-Serra Grande Environmental Protection Area, fronting 5 km of near-deserted Itacarezinho beach. The name 'Txai' comes from the Indigenous Kaxinawá word for 'companion' — and that warmth shows. Thirty-eight bungalows and apartments, built on stilts from native materials like piaçava palm and dendê splint screens, blend into the landscape so completely that it feels less like a resort than a very well-staffed private estate.

Speedboat trip from the resort up the Rio de Contas to the Engenho River Waterfall. Up to 6 guests per boat. The river flows 620 km from the southern Chapada Diamantina — it's genuinely spectacular.
