Why It Matters

One of the world's most architecturally significant small hotels. The Mirrorcube — a mirror-clad cube that disappears into the trees — went viral before 'going viral' was a thing, landing on the cover of Architectural Record. The Biosphere (2022, by Bjarke Ingels Group) adds nesting boxes for actual birds and bats into its ecological cocoon. The newest room, Oasis (2026), comes with its own private sauna and hot tub. No room duplicates another architect, another concept, or another material.

Nine architect-designed treehouses suspended 4–10 metres above a pine forest in Swedish Lapland, just south of the Arctic Circle. Each room was commissioned from a different award-winning architect — BIG, Snøhetta, Tham & Videgård among them — so no two nights here feel remotely alike. Services are deliberately minimal: a sauna, a riverside hot tub, and a restaurant focused on microseasonality. That's mostly the point.

Where You'll Stay

10 room types available

7th Room
Treehouse Suite

7th Room

From SEK16,100 / night

The largest treehouse, designed by Oslo-based Snøhetta (2016). Two bedrooms plus a lounge with fireplace, suspended 10 metres above the ground. The transparent floor and transparent railing give full, slightly vertiginous views down to the forest floor and out across the Lule River Valley. Dark facade, bright interior — designed around the extreme contrasts of arctic light.

From SEK14,800 / night

Designed by Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) in 2022. A spherical structure cocooned within an ecological habitat that serves dual guests: humans inside, and birds and bats in nesting boxes on the exterior. Accessed via a suspended bridge from the forest floor. Has an eco shower, sauna, and tap water inside. Roof terrace accessible in snow-free months.

Bird's Nest
Treehouse Room

Bird's Nest

From SEK6,100 / night

Designed by Bertil Harström / Inredningsgruppen (2010). The exterior is a massive, realistic-looking bird's nest built from branches — it blends completely into the forest canopy. Inside: a comfortable room for a family of four. Access is by ladder only, and you can only bring small bags in. A classic of the collection and a particular hit with guests who came as kids.

Blue Cone
Treehouse Room

Blue Cone

From SEK7,200 / night

Designed by Sandellsandberg / Thomas Sandell (2010). The only wheelchair-accessible treehouse on the property, reached via a long sloping ramp. Distinctively painted red (the architect originally planned blue, then changed his mind on site). Double bed downstairs with a view of the forest; sleeping loft with two single beds. Has an eco shower. Pets are allowed here — the one room where dogs are welcome (extra 1,000 SEK cleaning fee).

Dragonfly

From SEK10,000 / night

Designed by Finnish-Icelandic firm Rintala Eggertsson Architects (2013). The largest of the standard treehouses, it functions equally well as a private retreat or an intimate conference space. Floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows look out over the river valley. Rustic brown exterior blends with the pine landscape. One of the few treehouses with an en-suite shower.

The decor is warm and retro, with a welcoming fireplace. Some rooms have en-suite facilities; others share bathroom facilities in the hallway. Free WiFi throughout. This is the budget-friendly entry point into the Treehotel experience.

Mirrorcube

Mirrorcube

From SEK6,900 / night

Designed by Tham & Videgård (2010). A 4×4×4 metre aluminium cube wrapped entirely in mirror panels that reflect the surrounding forest — from outside, it essentially vanishes into the trees. Inside: a double room for two with a hidden balcony accessed by a step ladder. The Mirrorcube put Treehotel on the world map when it appeared on the cover of Architectural Record and went viral across global media.

Oasis
Treehouse Suite

Oasis

From SEK20,100 / night

The newest room (2026), designed by Nadén & Lind. Two organically curved walls frame a secluded clearing beneath the treetops — the design deliberately limits your field of view to sharpen your other senses. The most premium room at the property, with its own private outdoor area including a sauna and hot tub. Fits up to 5 people.

The Cabin

From SEK7,200 / night

Designed by brothers Cyrén & Cyrén (2010). Perched high on a sharp hillside above the Luleå River valley, accessed by a horizontal bridge through the trees. Spacious wooden deck and sweeping valley views. The architects deliberately avoided ladders and stairs — you can enjoy the view straight from the bed.

UFO
Treehouse Room

UFO

From SEK6,100 / night

Also designed by Bertil Harström / Inredningsgruppen (2011). A saucer-shaped capsule that genuinely looks like a UFO hovering in the pines. Small porthole-style windows let in dappled forest light and you can feel the gentle sway of the structure. Accessed by ladder only. Fits a family of five but brings a playful, slightly surreal energy that makes it particularly popular.
