Tourists
Adult summer camp meets design-forward motor lodge. The vibe is pared-down and warm — not precious. Caramel leather sofas, tree-stump tables, and a communal fireplace define the Lodge. Rooms are minimal but thoughtful: built-in king beds, outdoor showers, and framed forest views. Art-world adjacent, unpretentious.
Book a Ramble room for river views and suspension bridge proximity; the Canopy rooms are quieter and more private if you want seclusion in the trees.
Why It Matters
Holds Two Michelin Keys (2024 and 2025). Co-founded by Wilco bassist John Stirratt and developer Ben Svenson. An eco-friendly rebuild (LEED platinum eligible) of a one-star roadside motel into one of the Northeast's most talked-about boutique hotels.
TOURISTS is a 46-room hotel and riverside retreat on the banks of the Hoosic River in North Adams, built on the foundation of a 1960s motor lodge. Designed by architect Hank Scollard (a protégé of MASS MoCA's architect) with interiors inspired by California's Sea Ranch, it pairs pale blond wood, vaulted ceilings, and picture windows with an 80-acre forested campus. A 220-foot suspension bridge crosses the river to trails, sculptural sound installations, and a former Civil War–era textile mill.

A 220-foot wooden suspension bridge (built by Tree-Mendous Aerial Adventures) crosses the Hoosic River, connecting guests to forested trails, sculptural installations, and a former Civil War–era textile mill site.
Yoga sessions held on the property's outdoor yoga deck in warmer months. Guided classes scheduled throughout the season.
Outdoor art installations scattered across the property grounds, including the Chime Chapel — a wind-chime sound installation deep in the forest built by New Orleans Airlift, an artist collective famous for playable architecture.
TOURISTS' signature live music series, open to all guests and visitors. Musical performances happen on property, drawing on connections to the Berkshires arts and music scene (Wilco co-founder John Stirratt is among the owners).
