Central Park
Mid-century modern with a music-obsessed soul. Rooms nod to the neighborhood's jazz legacy. Parker's restaurant hosts live jazz nightly. The tone is sophisticated but not stiff — a Victrola in the Upper Stories lounge, graffiti-covered walls hiding the Burger Joint, and Sferra linens on the beds.
Ask for a room above floor 26 to access the Upper Stories tier if your booking qualifies — the private check-in alone is worth it during busy periods
Why It Matters
One of the most storied hotel addresses in Midtown Manhattan, reborn with a sharp new identity. Home to Burger Joint — ranked #2 in Eater NY's Top Burgers list — hidden behind a curtain off the lobby. Indian Accent, Chef Manish Mehrotra's award-winning modern Indian restaurant, is a legitimate dining destination in its own right. The Upper Stories tier (floors 26–33) functions as a hotel-within-a-hotel with private check-in and a dedicated lounge. Owned by Gencom since September 2024.
A 42-story Midtown tower that has had more lives than most: it opened in 1981 as the Hotel Parker Meridien, became beloved for its rooftop pool and secret Burger Joint, and relaunched in November 2021 as Thompson Central Park after a full $100M renovation by architect Thomas Juul-Hansen and Stonehill Taylor. The mid-century modernist interior is warm and sharp — dark navy leathers, ribbed wall detailing, sculptural pendant lighting — and the 587 rooms all clock in at 300 sq ft or above, generous by Manhattan standards. The building sits three blocks south of Central Park on 56th Street, within easy walking distance of MoMA, Carnegie Hall, and Radio City Music Hall.
