Why It Matters
One of the very few Michelin Key-awarded hotels in Düsseldorf, The Wellem holds over 100 original artworks by world-renowned artists including HA Schult and Julian Schnabel throughout its corridors and suites. The building itself — a listed 1920s courthouse — is extraordinary, and the hotel is owner-managed rather than handed off to a big brand operator. The Wellem occupies a landmark listed courthouse building from the early 1920s in Düsseldorf's Andreas Quarter. Walk through the soaring columned portal into a grand entrance hall with a monumental stone staircase — and then step into the rear new building where all 102 studios and suites are kept, each loaded with original works by internationally recognized artists. It's an owner-managed property (Frankonia Hospitality GmbH) which shows in the details: everything here feels deliberate, not chain-hotel generic.

Rotunden Suite
The Wellem's most unique accommodation, positioned inside the building's historic rotunda with a rooftop terrace delivering 360-degree panoramic views over Düsseldorf. 'Spectacular' would be an understatement, per the hotel itself. Size is measured in degrees, not square metres — a genuinely one-of-a-kind city room.
Studio
The entry-level option here is still genuinely impressive. Four-metre-high ceilings give even 33 sqm a sense of real grandeur. Each studio has a separate living area, a king bed, a Nespresso machine, and original artworks by rotating artists. Compact but intelligently designed — not a squeeze.
