The Stavrand
Warm, bohemian, rustic-luxury California. Think Mission Revival architecture, artsy wallpaper, cedar hot tubs under open sky, and a nightly prix-fixe dinner served to a maximum of six tables. Not precious — but genuinely special.
Book a Cazadero room for the outdoor cedar hot tub experience under the open sky — it's the sweet spot between Belden's historic charm and Armstrong's modernity
Why It Matters
One of the very few independently-owned, owner-operated properties in Wine Country to hold both Michelin Two Keys and AAA Four Diamonds. The Belden House is a registered Sonoma County Landmark (Number 129). Dinner is strictly for hotel guests only — six tables, four courses, prix-fixe — which keeps the experience genuinely private.
The Stavrand is a 21-room boutique hotel on a six-acre hillside estate in Guerneville, originally built in 1922 as the home of Guerneville banker Ralph 'Rooster' Belden and converted into a B&B in the 1980s. A full gut renovation in 2021 by new owners Emily Glick and Santiago Appleton Ripley brought it back to life with sharp interiors by EDG Design (the same firm behind Montage Healdsburg) while keeping the historic bones intact. The result earned a Michelin Two-Key rating, AAA Four Diamond, and a spot on Travel + Leisure's It List — serious hardware for a 21-room property in a small redwood river town.

Giant Connect Four, croquet, cornhole, and badminton available on the grounds.
Stavrand guests receive complimentary access to the Classic Tasting at Marimar Estate, a neighboring woman-owned winery known for its tempranillo and albariño — a welcome departure from the usual Russian River pinot. Valued at $35 per person.
Complimentary tastings available at a growing list of partner wineries including Croix, Gary Farrell, Lynmar, MacRostie, and Martin Ray. Kosta Browne offers preferred access and member pricing.
Daily 5–6pm reception with curated local wines, cocktails, and a chef amuse-bouche. Happens in the courtyard or fireside in the Belden House.
S'mores kits with local dark chocolate and a gluten-free graham cracker option, enjoyed at the courtyard firepits. Stavrand blankets available for chilly evenings.
The team outfits guests with kayak equipment and inner tubes to float the Russian River, just steps from the property. Coolers available to borrow.
Curated book collection in the Belden House — strong on local area and 1920s history titles. Board games available to enjoy on the grounds or in your room.
Wander the estate's Chef's Meadow past fruit trees (apple, fig, quince, apricot, pear, plum) planted by the original Belden family in the 1920s. The meadow also hosts the kitchen garden. In-season fruit can be picked directly from the trees.
A 10-minute guided walk through the Chef's Meadow, past tennis courts and mini-golf, across the river bridge to downtown Guerneville's Main Street. Each guestroom is equipped with a portable lantern for evening strolls.
