The Station Hotel
Whisky-centric Scottish boutique. Dark wood panelling, copper accents, leather furniture, and distillery-themed artwork. Formal enough for a special occasion but relaxed enough for muddy-boot walkers stopping in after a day on the hills.
Book the tasting menu in advance — spaces are limited and it regularly sells out, especially on weekends
Why It Matters
Owned and built by the Forsyth family — the largest manufacturers of whisky stills in the world — the hotel has an authenticity that money can't manufacture. The Spirit Safe bar holds more than 500 expressions. The kitchen grows its own produce in the hotel's vegetable garden. And the 2 AA Rosette Still & Stove tasting menu puts this firmly on the culinary radar, not just the whisky trail.
Built in 1901 and left derelict for a decade, The Station Hotel was rescued and fully restored in 2016 by Richard and Heather Forsyth — the family behind Forsyths, the globally renowned copper still manufacturer whose workshops sit just down the road in Rothes. That backstory isn't incidental. It's everywhere: in the miniature copper still replicas behind the bar, in the 500-plus whiskies lining the Spirit Safe, in the suite names that honour the distilleries on the doorstep. AA four-star rated with 2 AA Rosettes for dining, it's the best-appointed hotel in Speyside by a clear margin.
