The St. Regis Rome
Grand historic palazzo meets fearless contemporary art. High ceilings, pastel hues, precious Rubelli fabrics, Murano glass chandeliers, and provocative art installations from one of Italy's leading galleries. The lobby doubles as a social piazza for Romans and guests alike. Formal but not stiff.
Ask for an Imperial Room or above if butler service matters to you — it's standard from Imperial upward, not for Superior or Deluxe
Why It Matters
The first St. Regis property in Europe, inaugurated by César Ritz himself in 1894. The Ritz Ballroom — Rome's first-ever public ballroom, frescoed by Mario Spinetti — is protected by the Italian Ministry of Culture. The hotel houses a permanent Galleria Continua art space and is listed in 50 Best Discovery. No other Rome hotel has this depth of living heritage.
Opened in January 1894 by César Ritz with a 16-course dinner prepared by Auguste Escoffier, The St. Regis Rome is the brand's first European property and one of the foundational addresses in the history of luxury hospitality. It sits inside an architecturally significant palazzo overlooking Piazza della Repubblica, a five-minute walk from Termini and a short stroll to the Trevi Fountain. After a full-scale post-2018 renovation, the 161 rooms lean into a Belle Époque aesthetic layered with bold contemporary art — Galleria Continua has a permanent exhibition space inside — and the result is genuinely striking rather than stuffy.

An immersive virtual reality experience, 'The Evolution of a District,' created by IF Experience for the hotel. Guests journey through the history of the Diocletian Baths complex — the world's largest Roman spa — which once occupied the exact neighborhood. Arranged through the Butler team.
Every evening at 7pm, a bottle of Champagne is opened with a saber in Lumen — a St. Regis ritual dating to Napoleonic tradition. Accompanied by rhythmic video projections, it marks the transition from day to night. Guests can book a private sabering experience. Free to watch as part of the evening atmosphere.
Personalized family experiences including birthday celebrations, a bespoke children's capsule collection, and curated activities for younger guests. Connecting rooms available for families with children under 12.
Since January 2020, Galleria Continua — one of the world's most prominent contemporary art galleries — maintains a permanent exhibition space within the hotel. Rotating exhibitions by major international artists (past shows include Sun Yuan & Peng Yu, Pascale Marthine Tayou, Hans op de Beeck) are installed throughout public spaces. Open to hotel guests and the public.
Every Tuesday and Thursday evening, Lumen hosts The Lumen Society — weekly gatherings featuring local DJ sets paired with cocktails. Open to guests and Rome residents.
Daily afternoon tea in Lumen from 3pm to 6pm, with Dammann Frères teas as exclusive partner. A modern Italian take on the Mrs. Astor gathering tradition. Costs €42–€65 depending on whether you add a glass of Ruinart Champagne.
The St. Regis signature Bloody Mary, reimagined as 'The Red Admiral' — a Mediterranean version using all-Italian spices and flavors, prepared tableside on a custom Larusmiani trolley. A Sunday tradition at Lumen.
Available to all guests but standard (complimentary) for Imperial Rooms and above. Butlers handle unpacking, garment pressing, shoe polishing, morning beverage service, daily newspaper delivery, and act as a single point of contact for all in-stay requests. Available 24/7 via phone.
