Why It Matters
The debut property of Proper Hospitality's new 'By Proper' brand. A $100M renovation of a genuine 1940s landmark. Food and beverage program led by a Florida Keys native who cooked at Eleven Madison Park. The original 1950s pool diving platform is still there, and they kept it.
A Collins Avenue landmark that first opened in 1941 — originally designed by Igor Polevitzky and later reworked by Morris Lapidus — The Shelborne reopened in May 2025 after a $100M head-to-toe transformation by ADC Atelier. All 251 rooms are new, the pool deck is anchored by a restored 1950s diving platform, and the food program is run by Michelin-starred chef Abram Bissell. The aesthetic lands somewhere between tropical modernism and lived-in coastal cool: honed Perlino marble, travertine floors, blonde wood, and Latin American art throughout — nothing over-curated, nothing flashy.
