The Secret Chapel is exactly what it sounds like: a Catholic schuilkerk (clandestine church) founded in 1744 that persecuted believers once used to worship in secret, now converted into what is arguably Amsterdam's most singular place to spend the night. The entire property is one room — an altar, a king-size bed, a claw-foot tub, and a kitchenette tucked inside a rococo interior. You sleep where the altar used to be, under a plaster ceiling of cherubs and the Eye of God.

The Secret Chapel Chamber
From EUR500 / nightThe whole chapel is your room. A king-size bed sits directly where the altar used to stand, draped in Hungarian down duvet and organic Egyptian cotton sheets. Above you, a rococo plaster ceiling with the Eye of God and frolicking cherubs. The chapel floor measures approximately 4x4 metres with an 8-metre open gallery above on three sides. Natural light floods in through skylights. Off the main chamber is a compact fully equipped kitchenette. The bathroom is upstairs — a deep-sunken antique ceramic tub with an art deco showerhead, heated granite floors, and privacy you won't find anywhere else in Amsterdam.
