The Roxbury is a one-of-a-kind themed boutique motel-resort in the tiny Catskills village of the same name, just under three hours from New York City. Originally a basic 1960s roadside motel, it was transformed by owners Gregory Henderson and Joseph Massa into a fantasia of pop culture rooms inspired by classic films, fairy tales, and TV shows — think Wizard of Oz, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Austin Powers, and Breakfast at Tiffany's, all executed with genuine craft and a total absence of irony. Now it spans two locations two miles apart: the original village-side motel and the grander Roxbury at Stratton Falls, a restored 1848 Italianate mansion plus whimsical cottages with a 50-foot waterfall on the doorstep.

Amadeus' Bride
The most theatrical room on the property. A two-story suite with 20-foot ceilings, 1,100 linear feet of handmade 18k gold leaf moldings, 27 mirrors bouncing light off a 200lb Austrian crystal chandelier, and a commissioned painting of Mozart's wife as the centrepiece. One bathroom has a two-person 85-gallon soaking tub with dual showerheads; the other has a two-person walk-in shower. Built for weddings, anniversaries, or anyone who wants to feel genuinely baroque.
Two Kings (one per floor)Angel Hair
Striped walls with colorful silhouetted figures and a Farrah Fawcett silhouette — this one's a love letter to 1970s pop art. Orange carpet, bold colors, and all standard Roxbury amenities.
Go Lightly a-Go-Go
Inspired by Breakfast at Tiffany's and Audrey Hepburn — Tiffany blue, sophisticated details, and the sort of polished 1960s elegance that makes it a popular pick for anniversaries and romantic getaways.
Maryann's Coconut Cream Pie
A Gilligan's Island-inspired room with a textured ceiling, seashell art, and playful island-life decor. Charming and compact — classic village-motel sizing with all the Roxbury design touches.

Austin Powers goes to the Catskills. Zebra print accents, dark bedding, yellow furnishings, and a full kitchen — one of the few rooms with cooking facilities at the village location.
Superhero Incognito (Stratton Falls)
One of the fantasy cottages at The Roxbury at Stratton Falls — designed as Wonder Woman's weekend retreat, with mid-century comic book visuals taken to a feature-film-set level. Sleeps 4–6 in a common living area format.
Terrazza of the Titans (Stratton Falls)
Greek mythology goes interior design. Life-size statues, mosaics, and a ceiling mural said to rival the Sistine Chapel in ambition. Part of the Stratton Falls cottage row — each cottage sleeps 4–6 with a shared common area.
The Archaeologist's Digs
A standalone cottage with Indiana Jones-level detail — hidden treasures, hieroglyphics, an aquarium, and three separate rooms plus two bathrooms and a full kitchen with bar. Arguably the most immersive room on the whole property and one of the only units that can truly sleep a group comfortably.
The Brothers Stratton (Stratton Falls Mansion)
A history-forward room on the second floor of the 1848 mansion, honoring the Stratton brothers who settled this land in the 1790s. Cabin feel with a custom musket-and-saber bed canopy, rustic American flag painting, 10-foot ceilings in the walk-in shower, and views of the cottage row and distant peaks.
The Mod Pod
Vibrant swirl wallpaper, a blue bedspread, and patterned pillows — the full 1960s mod aesthetic without any restraint. One of the most photographed corridors in the building.
The Wizard's Emeralds
Oz comes to life in full emerald regalia — sparkling green decor, a yellow brick road mural, and a bathroom tiled with poppies. King bed, two-person soaking tub with dual showerheads, dual-sink vanity, and a sofabed nook. It's one of the signature rooms at the original village-side location.

The surrounding Catskills region is well-known for antique shops and dealers, and the hotel actively recommends this as a guest activity. Hobart's Book Village is also nearby.
A multi-use trail for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing through farms, forests, and river views — accessible right from town.
Guided horseback riding tours through forested trails, streams, and mountain overlooks are available from a nearby operator.
Every room has Netflix access on the TV. There's also a large complimentary DVD library on-site for rainy-day movie marathons — a surprisingly beloved detail among guests.
A newly constructed trail system at the Stratton Falls property leads to a stunning 50-foot waterfall — the real-world inspiration for the hotel's fairy-tale aesthetic. The trail starts right outside the cottage doors and winds through forest along cascading streams.
The Catskills location and limited cell towers mean near-zero light pollution. The Roxbury promotes stargazing as a featured experience, particularly from the Stratton Falls grounds.
Evening fire pit at the village location, steps from downtown Roxbury. A gas fire pit at Stratton Falls is set up for morning coffee and crisp mountain-air sessions.
Plattekill Mountain is 4.3 miles away. Belleayre Mountain (38 trails, tubing, mountain biking) is nearby. Hunter Mountain is 16 miles. The front desk can assist with discounted lift tickets and rental packages.
