Why It Matters
EDITION's debut in Italy occupies a genuinely historic building and brings a rare private courtyard garden — something almost unheard-of in central Rome — plus a rooftop plunge pool with unobstructed Pantheon views. The Rome EDITION is Ian Schrager's first Italian property, opened in July 2023 inside a landmark 1940s rationalist-style building that was once one of Rome's foremost banks. The conversion kept the bones — a grand cipollino marble central staircase, original statues, soaring 22-foot lobby ceilings — and layered in Schrager's signature minimalism: muted tones, walnut herringbone floors, Canaletto wood beds, and Carrara marble bathrooms. The result is 74 rooms, 17 suites, and 2 penthouses that feel monumental and calm at once.
