The Pottinger Hong Kong
Colonial-meets-contemporary boutique; East-meets-West aesthetics with hand-painted silk wallpaper, latticework, jade accents, and heavy doses of 1950s-60s Hong Kong photographic art by Fan Ho. Feels more like a stylish private club than a corporate hotel.
Book Ta Vie well in advance — it only has a handful of tables and one fixed tasting menu that changes with the seasons
Why It Matters
One of Hong Kong Island's most acclaimed boutique hotels, winner of Hong Kong's Leading Boutique Hotel 2023. Its biggest draw is the on-site Ta Vie — a three-Michelin-starred French-Japanese tasting menu restaurant helmed by Chef Hideaki Sato. The hotel's address on the island's first historic cobbled street gives it genuine architectural context that most Central hotels can't match.
The Pottinger sits on one of Hong Kong's oldest streets — Pottinger Street, a granite-stepped pedestrian lane dating from the 1850s — and the hotel wears that history proudly. Fan Ho's iconic black-and-white photographs of 1950s and 60s Central Hong Kong hang throughout its 68 rooms and corridors, giving the whole place the feel of a very chic private residence. The 22-storey building launched in 2014 and punches above its 68-room scale: it houses a three-Michelin-starred restaurant (Ta Vie), a French-Mediterranean champagne-and-caviar bar (Huso), and a genuine speakeasy on the third floor. But here is the thing — no spa, no pool, no gym. This is a hotel for people who want to be in Central, not cocooned from it.

The 'Be a Central Explorer' package includes the hotel's own curated neighbourhood map — a guide to the best of Old Town Central including heritage buildings, local markets, and galleries. Snap three photos in Central, post with #thepottingerhongkong, and receive a complimentary bottle of wine.
The hotel's collection of Fan Ho's iconic 1950s–60s black-and-white photographs of old Central Hong Kong are displayed throughout rooms and corridors. Many of the streets and alleys Ho captured still exist within walking distance. A self-guided exercise in comparing then and now.
The 'Trackside Stay and Savour Experience' package pairs a hotel stay with immersive Happy Valley racing — includes F&B vouchers, beer coupon at the Beer Garden, exclusive racing edutainment access, a horse plush toy, and special race-day privileges.
