PIG in the Cotswolds
Maximalist-hygge meets shabby-chic country house. Think boho floral wallpapers, period beams, vintage flea-market finds and crackling log fires. Unpretentious and warmly chaotic in the best sense — guests in wellies sit next to guests in floaty floral dresses and no one bats an eye.
Pre-book your Fieldhouse spa slot with reception — the spa is intentionally limited to 8 people at a time and slots fill fast, especially on weekends
Why It Matters
THE PIG-in the Cotswolds is the group's first purpose-built spa hotel and first to include a village pub. It sits within the extraordinary gardens of the former Barnsley House — Rosemary Verey's original creation — making it one of the most historically significant horticultural settings in the Cotswolds. B Corp certified.
A Grade II-listed, 17th-century honey-stone manor in the tiny Cotswolds village of Barnsley, just four miles from Cirencester. THE PIG took over the former Barnsley House in 2024, sensitively restoring it while stamping the whole place with the group's signature laid-back luxury — reclaimed furniture, rich fabrics, floral wallpapers and cosy nooks at every turn. The gardens, originally designed by the legendary Rosemary Verey, remain the real centrepiece: listed archways, a laburnum walk, potager gardens and Simon Verity sculptures dotted about the grounds. This is the first PIG with a full standalone spa and the first with its own village pub, making it arguably the most complete property in the group.

The hotel provides maps and tips for walking and cycling routes directly from Barnsley — including circular walks through rolling Cotswolds hills, field-flanked routes to Bibury and strolls through the Coln Valley. Bikes not available to hire on-site, but the hotel team can advise on local rental.
A guided morning stroll around the Rosemary Verey-designed gardens, led by knowledgeable staff — several of whom have been tending the grounds for years before THE PIG's arrival. Takes in the laburnum walk, knot garden, potager gardens, Tuscan temple, listed Gothic summerhouse, Simon Verity sculptures and the Kitchen Garden.
Guests are free to wander the on-site Kitchen Garden — one of the largest in the PIG litter, with notably long growing beds, a big fruit cage and one of the longest native foraging hedges in the group (all edible nuts and berries). The garden team work alongside the chefs and are happy to talk through what's growing.
Seasonal events calendar including live local music, hands-on food and garden workshops, and themed evenings. Check the hotel's events page for upcoming dates.
A weekend-long summer party event held on the hotel grounds — one of the seasonal highlights on the PIG events calendar.
