Why It Matters

SLH member since well before SLH was cool on Patmos. Only 11 rooms means the pool never feels crowded and the owners know every guest by name. Finalist for Most Outstanding Service at the 2010 Condé Nast Johansens Awards. The art alone is worth noting — room keys double as art objects. And the breakfast, freshly made daily by the owner, is consistently cited as one of the best hotel breakfasts in the Greek islands.

Family-run boutique hotel in the quiet fishing village of Grikos on Patmos, operating since 1989. Just 11 rooms and suites arranged like a miniature whitewashed Greek village on a hillside, with an outdoor pool, sea views across Grikos Bay, and a curated collection of contemporary Greek art. The London Times called it 'a family run sanctuary with a cultured charm that nails the essence of posh Patmos' — and that tracks. Owner Petra runs the kitchen personally, producing made-from-scratch breakfasts that guests rave about as a highlight of their trip.

Deluxe Double with Sea View

The entry-level room at The Petra, and still solid. About 25 sqm with a queen bed, traditional sofa, and a private balcony looking over the Aegean and Grikos Bay. Bathroom has a shower. White walls, locally sourced art details. Fits 2 guests comfortably. It's compact but the balcony sea view punches well above the room's square footage.

Petra Suite with Panoramic Sea View & Private Terrace

The flagship — and the clear choice for honeymooners. About 50 sqm across two floors connected by a marble internal staircase: queen bedroom upstairs, living room below. Two bathrooms (one shower, one hydro-massage bathtub built for two). Walk-in closet. Flat-screen TVs in both rooms. And out front: a large private terrace over Grikos Bay with lounge chairs, a built sofa, a dining table, and a round side table. It's a genuinely impressive setup for a hotel this size.

Superior Suite with Panoramic Sea View & Hot Tub

The sweet spot for couples who want privacy. King bed in the bedroom, separate living room, hydro-massage bathtub in the bathroom — and then out back, the real selling point: a traditional Patmian courtyard with flowers, trees, an outdoor jacuzzi, and sun loungers. Panoramic views of Grikos Bay from both the front terrace and the suite. Fits 2-4 guests. This is the most-requested room type and it's not hard to see why.

Tranquility Comfort Suite

A two-room suite — separate bedroom and living room — that works well for a family or friends traveling together. The queen bed is in the bedroom; the living room has sofa beds that can sleep up to 2 more. Bathroom with shower. Private balcony included. The sea view here is partially obstructed, which is why it sits below the Upper-Level Suite in the hierarchy. But the extra space is real and useful.

Upper-Level Suite with Sea View

Two-room suite with bedroom and living room (some have open-floor plans), ~35 sqm, and full sea views. Some units have hardwood floors and a hydro-massage bathtub instead of a shower — worth asking when booking if that's a priority. Can accommodate a third guest on a sofa bed. The 'romantic suites' within this category have the bathtub and a dressier finish.
