The Peacock at Rowsley
Classic English country house with sharp contemporary design accents. Intimate and genuinely historic — log fires, antique oil paintings, oak 'Mousey Thompson' furnishings — but not stuffy. The vibe is refined without being precious.

Why It Matters
One of only three three-AA-Rosette restaurants in Derbyshire, exclusive fly-fishing rights on the Haddon Estate's River Wye and River Derwent (the Wye is the only UK river to hold both wild rainbow and wild brown trout), and a building with an unbroken hospitality tradition since 1832.
Built in 1652 as a manor house for the steward of Haddon Hall, The Peacock at Rowsley became a hotel in 1832 and has been shaping itself ever since. It's a Grade II listed, 15-room boutique with Jacobean bones, antique furniture inherited from Haddon Hall and Belvoir Castle, and bold contemporary design touches — think velvet armchairs in magenta, teal feature walls, and four-poster beds handcrafted on the estate. The restaurant is the real draw: three AA Rosettes for eight consecutive years, Michelin Guide listed, and named Restaurant of the Year at the Westside & Southside Awards two years running. In 2025, the hotel passed from the Haddon Estate into the hands of Longbow Venues, an independent hospitality group committed to keeping heritage properties alive rather than glossing over them.
