Why It Matters
One of LA's most storied historic estates — a designated Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument (No. 391) built for silent film socialites Daisy Canfield and Antonio Moreno. Hollywood legends including Buster Keaton and Marion Davies attended parties here. The property has appeared in Halloween H20, Scream 3, and dozens of reality TV productions. Dana Hollister and designer Ken Fulk entered a partnership on the estate in 2023.
A 1920s Mediterranean Revival mansion perched on the highest promontory in Silver Lake, The Paramour Estate has lived many lives — silent film star's home, girls' school, Franciscan convent — before interior designer Dana Hollister bought it in 1998 and turned it into something hard to categorize. It's part film set, part event venue, part personal art collection, and home to nine rooms, suites, and stand-alone cottages that are among the most individually stylish in Los Angeles. Services are deliberately minimal: daily housekeeping, continental breakfast in the Butler's Pantry, and the run of 4.5 acres of gardens, fountains, and pine forests. But the comforts are serious — Matteo linens, Byredo bath products, Stumptown coffee. You live like you own the place, because it feels like someone genuinely does.

Coach House
A standalone 650 sq ft cottage steps from the main mansion, with soaring wood beam ceilings and an open-plan bathroom. Walk-in shower, kitchenette, and a private 400 sq ft courtyard with sunbed and sitting area. One of two wheelchair-accessible options.
KingCorner Cottage
A 1,000 sq ft cottage with a full kitchen and separate living room. The private bedroom suite opens through antique doors onto a 500 sq ft private garden courtyard. A brass soaking tub is the centrepiece of the bath. The largest private outdoor space of any room on the estate.
KingGate House
A two-story standalone cottage with a spiral staircase leading to a bedroom loft with a king bed and handmade copper soaking tub. Full kitchen, full dining table, living room, and a private 400 sq ft courtyard with a fountain. The most self-contained accommodation on the estate.

Guest Room 3
The most compact room in the mansion at 350 sq ft, but punching above its weight with an antique hand-turned four-poster teak bed, forged iron and crystal chandelier, marble shower, and forest views. Second floor.
QueenGuest Room 4
Second-floor room with three walls of windows overlooking the forest and estate grounds. A wire canopy crown bed, carved Chinese desk, antique Turkish settee, and a 19th-century Venetian mirror furnish what feels more like a curated study than a hotel room.

Suite 1
Ground-floor mansion suite with wood beam ceiling and historic French doors that open directly onto the pool patio. The Italian mirrored headboard and marble shower enclosure set the tone. Downtown LA views from inside. This is one of two wheelchair-accessible options.
King
Suite 2
The largest of the mansion suites, on the second floor with a private balcony and downtown LA views. An antique Indian canopy bed, Fortuny sconces, and hand-carved Chinese settee make this one of the most globally-sourced rooms on the estate. Marble shower enclosure.

A second-floor suite built around a 19th-century gilded Italian bed and antique hand-painted Chinese screens. Views reach the estate grounds and San Gabriel Mountains. The standout feature is a deep soaking bathtub alongside a walk-in shower, plus a separate breakfast niche.
KingSuite 6
Tied for the largest mansion suite at 900 sq ft, with a private balcony overlooking the pool and San Gabriel Mountains. Filled with ornate gilded mirrors, a standing Thai temple, and vivid Art Deco Chinese carpets. The most dramatically decorated room in the mansion.

Wander 4.5 acres of gardens, terraces, orchards, pine forest, and fountains — all with panoramic views over the LA skyline and San Gabriel Mountains. Grounds are open until dusk.
Photography and video shoots can be arranged on the estate for an additional fee. Not included in overnight rates.
Use of the historic Malibu mosaic tile pool set in the mansion's central courtyard. Unheated. Reservation required. No lifeguard. Closes at 10pm.
The estate can host private events including weddings, corporate gatherings, and film productions. The ballroom seats up to 175. Event kit available via the official website.
