Why It Matters
One of Madrid's founding grand hotels, operating continuously since 1912. First hotel in Spain with a private bathroom and telephone in every room. Commissioned by King Alfonso XIII, declared a UNESCO Landscape of Light, and winner of a 2025 MICHELIN Key. The €90m renovation completed in March 2025 — including the painstaking restoration of the 1,875-pane glass dome — returned it to The Luxury Collection after 25 years as a Westin.
Open since 1912 and back as a Luxury Collection flagship since March 2025, The Palace is the kind of hotel Madrid built its reputation on. A €90 million renovation — two years in the making — restored the iconic Belle Époque façade to its original warm beige and terracotta tones, reassembled all 1,875 panes of the stained-glass dome (now crowned by its legendary glass palm chandelier), and redressed all 470 rooms from scratch under designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán. Picasso, Hemingway, Mata Hari, and Dalí once called it home. The new chapter keeps that energy alive.

Cervantes Suite
Named for Miguel de Cervantes, this one-bedroom suite is a strong choice for guests who want more natural light. The large windows look out over Las Letras neighbourhood. A handcrafted tapestry headboard draws from nearby El Retiro Park, and the curvaceous sofa and circular table seat four — genuinely comfortable for a longer stay.

Faces the Spanish Parliament — some units have small terraces, which are a genuine bonus in Madrid's sunny climate. Signed lithographs are the design centrepiece. A custom-made Retiro Park tapestry anchors the bedroom. Two separate spaces, king bed.

The entry-level room and still a proper Madrid stay. At 31 sqm, it overlooks the hotel's interior patio — quiet, warm-toned, and designed by Lázaro Rosa-Violán with hand-painted wall coverings and custom Gessi fixtures in the bathroom.
