Palace, A Luxury Collection Hotel, Madrid
Grand European Belle Époque hotel reborn with contemporary art-hotel energy. Dramatic public spaces — that dome, the circular marble bar — meet rooms that feel warm and residential rather than stiffly formal. History wears well here.

Why It Matters
One of Madrid's founding grand hotels, operating continuously since 1912. First hotel in Spain with a private bathroom and telephone in every room. Commissioned by King Alfonso XIII, declared a UNESCO Landscape of Light, and winner of a 2025 MICHELIN Key. The €90m renovation completed in March 2025 — including the painstaking restoration of the 1,875-pane glass dome — returned it to The Luxury Collection after 25 years as a Westin.
Open since 1912 and back as a Luxury Collection flagship since March 2025, The Palace is the kind of hotel Madrid built its reputation on. A €90 million renovation — two years in the making — restored the iconic Belle Époque façade to its original warm beige and terracotta tones, reassembled all 1,875 panes of the stained-glass dome (now crowned by its legendary glass palm chandelier), and redressed all 470 rooms from scratch under designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán. Picasso, Hemingway, Mata Hari, and Dalí once called it home. The new chapter keeps that energy alive.
