The Pacific Motel
Mid-century motor lodge meets clean Scandi minimalism. Whitewashed shiplap, ceiling fans, local artwork, and a fire-pit social scene that actually works.
Weekend stays typically require a two-night minimum; major holidays (July 4th, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Christmas/New Year's) require 3–5 nights.
Why It Matters
Nominated for Travel + Leisure's 2023 World's Best Awards. Covered by Vogue, Condé Nast Traveler, the FT, AFAR, and Smithsonian Magazine. Featured in the Michelin Guide and Mr & Mrs Smith. The owners did this themselves — no hotel group behind it, no formula.
A local couple — a contractor and interior designer — took one of Cayucos's original 1920s motor-court buildings, moved it here in the fifties, and turned it into something genuinely special. The result: 20 rooms and bungalows painted in Sherwin-Williams Alabaster White, with Parachute linens, Tivoli radios, and carefully stocked minibars featuring local producers. It sits a block and a half from the Pacific, in a California beach town that still feels like 1975.
