The Menjangan
Eco-nature retreat with boutique soul. Casual but genuinely well-designed — bengkirai wood floors, grass-thatched roofs, stone bathrooms. Safari buggies shuttle you between jungle lodge, beach, and the extraordinary Bali Tower structure. Guests come to disconnect, not to be pampered in the usual luxury-hotel sense.
Book the Beach Villa if budget allows — the Monsoon Lodge is a 15-minute safari buggy ride from the beach
Why It Matters
One of only a small number of resorts permitted to operate inside West Bali National Park. The Bali Tower — a five-huge-log structure climbing above the tree line — is unlike anything else in Bali. Menjangan Island's coral reefs, a short boat ride away, are among the best snorkeling and diving in all of Indonesia. Tablet Hotels (now part of the Michelin Guide selection) considers it among the most compelling alternatives to Bali's crowded south.
The Menjangan sits on 382 hectares inside West Bali National Park — that's the largest resort footprint within the park's boundaries. It's on the island's quiet northwestern coast, about four hours from the Denpasar airport, which is part of the whole point. No shopping, no nightlife, no traffic noise. Just forest, a private beach on Sentigi Bay, and a serious commitment to doing as little damage to the surroundings as possible. Think deer at breakfast, kingfishers in the mangroves, and the rare Bali Starling spotted from the pool.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Learn to prepare local Balinese dishes with the resort's culinary team.
Guided walks through the West Bali National Park in search of endemic and rare species, including the endangered Bali Starling (Jarak Bali). The national park's biodiversity makes this a genuine draw for serious birders.
Guided rides through the national park forests and along the beach. A horse stable is on site with experienced guides. The Experience Package includes a 1-hour ride.
Bicycle through the dirt tracks of the national park. Safari-style terrain — expect rough roads as motor vehicles are restricted inside the park.
Guided treks through the national park on foot. More birdwatching walk than heavy hike — the terrain is accessible but the wildlife and flora make it worthwhile.
Double-decker safari-style mini-buses are the main way to get around the 382-hectare property. Doubles as a wildlife spotting experience — deer, monkeys, and birds are regularly seen.
Kayak from the resort's jetty through the inlets, mangroves, and private beaches of Bajul Bay. One of the most popular on-property activities for exploring the mangrove maze.
Dive trips to Menjangan Island's renowned coral walls and reefs. A dive center is on site.
A 30-minute boat ride to Menjangan Island, widely considered to have some of the best coral reefs in all of Indonesia. Almost universally praised in guest reviews — the corals and marine life here are a genuine highlight of any visit.
