The Mandrake is a 33-room adults-only boutique hotel on Newman Street in Fitzrovia, opened in 2017 by entrepreneur and art collector Rami Fustok. You walk through a deliberately dim, narrow corridor to reach it — a move that puts real distance between you and Oxford Street even though the two are about two minutes apart. Inside, a central courtyard wrapped in hanging jasmine and passionflower anchors a world built around the tension between darkness and light, hedonism and spiritualism.

Elegant and tranquil rather than dramatically dark. A spacious suite with a marble ensuite bathroom featuring a double vanity and bathtub. Calmer in palette than some of the other suites, with king bed, jewel-tone accents and bespoke artwork.
KingMandrake Room
The entry-level rooms are cosy and deliberately cocooning — high ceilings, deeply comfortable organic mattresses, and enclosed rainfall showers. Roughly half face the courtyard and Jurema Terrace, the rest look onto Newman Street. Dark palette, bespoke artwork, and a fully stocked minibar make these feel more like a moody den than a hotel room.

The hotel's signature room and its most theatrical. Draped in a textural contrast of velvets, silks and satins. The centrepiece is a Bedouin-style tented bed overlooking an open-plan bathroom with a freestanding claw-foot tub surrounded in silver wave marble. Semi-private terrace included. Dark, seductive, and hard to leave.

Facing Newman Street at the front of the hotel, these are the lighter counterparts to the moody Mandrake Rooms. High ceilings, hardwood floors, vintage chandeliers, and one-of-a-kind artwork. They embrace the 'light' side of the hotel's dark/light concept.

The one-of-a-kind crown of the building. Encased in white Veronese bookend marble, the bed is so large its cashmere mattress had to be custom-made. The rooftop jacuzzi sits under a retractable roof. Actors, musicians and directors have called it home during London stays. There is, quite literally, nothing else like it in the hotel.

Described as the perfect pied-à-terre with bespoke touches throughout. A generous, modern room with ensuite marble bathroom. Calmer and more contemporary than some of the hotel's more theatrical spaces.

The most popular category. Double doors open directly onto a semi-private terrace draped with hanging jasmine and passionflower from the Jurema gardens. You get your own outdoor seating, and the greenery creates genuine privacy. King bed, forest-toned decor, and a solid marble-style bathroom with rainfall shower.
KingTerrace Suite
All inky walls, sumptuous velvet fabrics, gilded furniture, and original artworks. The dark counterpart to the Newman Suite. Bathroom has a claw-foot tub and double sinks under a suspended crystal chandelier, plus doors opening to a semi-private terrace with outdoor seating.
