Why It Matters

The Langham, Boston lives inside the 1922 Federal Reserve Bank — a granite Renaissance Revival fortress in the Financial District that the Boston Landmarks Commission protects to this day. After a $200 million renovation that shuttered the property for two full years, it reopened in 2021 as what the brand calls a 'new American classic.' The bones of the old bank are everywhere: original brass casement windows, terrazzo floors in the restaurant, and that vault-like heft that makes the whole building feel permanent. The Fed bar actually named after it.
