The Kenwood Inn and Spa
Mediterranean / Tuscan villa boutique inn. Romantic, quiet, adults-oriented. Not a resort, not a B&B — somewhere deliberately in between. Low-key luxe without Napa Valley pretense.
Request an upper-floor room with a pool-facing balcony — the vineyard views and courtyard scene are the best the property has to offer
Why It Matters
Michelin Guide selection and Tablet Hotels member. One of the top-rated romantic getaways in Sonoma County, with full renovation completed 2023. Part of the Four Sisters Inns collection (17 properties). Complimentary full breakfast and evening wine-and-cheese tasting from rotating local wineries are included — not an afterthought but a genuine highlight.
On Route 12 through Sonoma's Valley of the Moon, Kenwood Inn & Spa does the Tuscan villa thing better than almost anywhere in California wine country. Honey-toned, ivy-covered buildings wrap around three flagstone courtyards on two-and-a-half landscaped acres, with fountains, a koi pond with working waterwheel, and a stretch of grapevines. The whole place was fully renovated in June 2023, swapping heavy dark antique furniture for a cleaner, modern Italian aesthetic — think Restoration Hardware meets Northern Italy, not dusty Old World.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Rotating Sonoma Valley wineries pour nightly 5–6pm in the courtyards. A low-key way to discover local producers — the featured winery changes regularly, and staff can recommend a follow-up visit.
The inn is surrounded by some of Sonoma Valley's best tasting rooms — Kunde Family, Deerfield Ranch, Chateau St. Jean, and Kenwood Vineyards are all within a mile or two. The concierge is knowledgeable about reservations and recommendations.
The inn's 2.5-acre grounds reward slow wandering — three flagstone courtyards, fountains, a koi pond with working waterwheel, fruit trees (avocado, fig, pomegranate, lemon), an herb and vegetable garden, and a small planting of wine grape varietals including Cabernet, Chardonnay, Zinfandel, and Merlot.
24-hour heated saline outdoor pool surrounded by lounge chairs, umbrellas, and tables. Cabana rentals available. Plus a separate hot tub near the spa building.
The hidden gem of the property — an oversized saline soaking pool with waterfall set alongside a small stretch of grapevines. Technically big enough to swim in, but the temperature keeps it in hot tub territory. Open 24 hours and often quieter than the main pool.
Two state parks with serious hiking terrain are within minutes of the inn. Sugarloaf Ridge State Park and Hood Mountain Regional Park offer trails ranging from easy vineyard walks to summit climbs with panoramic views.
