Why It Matters
The building itself is the story. A 16th-century Ricasoli family palazzo converted into a Hoxton hotel — with an entirely different 1980s postmodern wing attached. Florence has plenty of grand hotels, but this one swings between two architectural eras under one roof. The courtyard terrace, lined with olive and lemon trees around a three-tiered fountain, is genuinely one of the best outdoor dining spots in the city.
The Hoxton, Florence occupies two very different buildings side by side: a palatial 16th-century palazzo once owned by the Ricasoli family (yes, the Chianti wine family) and a clean-lined postmodern building from the 1980s. That contrast is the whole point. Renaissance frescoes and lime-washed walls on one side, linear Memphis design movement motifs on the other. It's a 10-minute walk to the Duomo, sitting just off Piazza della Libertà, with a big garden courtyard, a coastal Italian restaurant called Alassio, and Enoteca Violetta wine bar on-site.
