Why It Matters
One of the few hotels in the world designed as a total work of art by a Pritzker Prize winner. Every single room is a different film scene, and every piece of furniture was made specifically for the building. Jean Nouvel also designed the KKL Lucerne concert hall right next door, so staying here means sleeping inside the same architectural vision.
Pritzker Prize–winning architect Jean Nouvel designed this 30-room boutique in a 1907 corner building, opening it in 2000 with a single organizing concept: every room has a large-format film still projected onto the ceiling or wall. Think Last Tango in Paris, The Pillow Book, Dangerous Liaisons — each one different, each one slightly racy. The interiors are a controlled collision of dark Jatoba wood verticals and matt chromium-steel horizontals, with custom-designed furniture Nouvel made exclusively for the property. It is intentionally small, quiet, and personal — reportedly the smallest Marriott property in Europe.

One of three penthouse suites occupying the upper floors, with panoramic views over Lucerne's rooftops and the surrounding mountains. Comes with a private roof terrace. Film scenes wrap the headboard wall and ceiling. The backlit glass screen behind the headboard is a signature Nouvel touch.
