The Connaught Bar operates no reservations — arrive early (doors open at 4pm) or expect to queue

Why It Matters

One of London's oldest and most storied luxury hotels, home to the twice-crowned World's Best Bar, a three-Michelin-star restaurant helmed by Hélène Darroze, and the first Aman Spa ever operated outside an Aman resort. Charles de Gaulle lived in suite 103 for roughly two years during World War II.

The Connaught has been anchoring Mayfair's Carlos Place since the early 19th century, and the weight of that history is felt the moment the doorman greets you by name. It's a proper grand hotel — 121 rooms and suites, a three-Michelin-star restaurant under Hélène Darroze, and a bar that has twice been named the best in the world — yet it carries none of the stiff formality you might expect. The 2007 renovation (£70 million, led by Guy Oliver and the late David Collins) refreshed everything without erasing what made it worth preserving. Fair warning: entry-level rooms run small, sometimes genuinely cramped at 21 sqm.
