A proper estate hotel sitting right on the Chatsworth Estate, 1.5 miles by foot from one of Britain's most famous stately homes. Originally a coaching inn called the Peacock, it's been in Devonshire family hands since the 1830s. Interior designer Nicola Harding gave it a thorough rethink, weaving Devonshire family artwork, locally woven Derbyshire textiles, and glazed ceramic lamps made by a Chatsworth team member into 28 rooms that feel genuinely rooted in place. The Gallery Restaurant holds 3 AA Rosettes, and in 2025 the hotel took home both the AA Hotel of the Year and The Times Hotel of the Year, plus a Michelin Key.

The entry-level rooms, mostly in the original building. Smaller than the Spacious category but still charming, with views of the Chatsworth Estate. Spacious Rooms
Larger rooms with dedicated seating areas — tub chairs or sofas — and antique furniture alongside fine art. Some are in the main building, others in the Coach House (which guests rave about for its period furniture and freestanding baths). The Coach House rooms are the only dog-friendly option (3 rooms). An extra child in a z bed can be accommodated. 15 rooms total.

Splendid Room
One room, located in the oldest part of the hotel. This is the room to book for a special occasion. Four-poster bed, a comfortable seating area and writing desk, and wide-open views of Chatsworth parkland. The most independent and spacious option: a two-floor suite with its own private entrance, separate from the main hotel. Upstairs is the king-size bedroom with a seating area and ensuite bathroom (built-in bath with overhead shower, underfloor heating). Downstairs, a sitting room with dining table, plus a second bathroom with a walk-in shower. Locally made furniture and country-inspired fabrics throughout. The renowned Chatsworth Farm Shop is a 5-minute drive from the hotel in the village of Pilsley. Estate produce and local Derbyshire goods.
A 1.5-mile walk across the Chatsworth Estate leads to one of Britain's grandest stately homes, with 25+ rooms of art and artefacts spanning 4,000 years. The garden covers 105 acres. Hotel guests can get multi-entry tickets through the Chatsworth Experience package; private tours for hotel guests can be arranged year-round even outside regular opening hours.
Road cycling and trail cycling available from the hotel. The Monsal Trail is a popular traffic-free route nearby.
The Chatsworth fishery on the River Derwent is members-only, but hotel guests receive exclusive access. Ask reception to arrange it in advance.
Walks straight from the hotel door across the Chatsworth Estate parkland. The Monsal Trail is one of the Peak District's best-known cycling and hiking routes. A 190-mile boundary walk circles the entire national park; Stage 12 runs through nearby Pilsley and Beeley. The hotel team can recommend routes.
