Book Brasserie 1809 for dinner even if you're not staying — it's a local institution with a genuine Gault Millau rating and open to non-guests

Why It Matters

One of the few true small-scale luxury lodges in the Swiss Alps, with just 38 suites. TripAdvisor ranked it Europe's 21st and Switzerland's 2nd best luxury hotel in 2023. Referenced by the Michelin Guide as one of the top ten most fascinating Swiss hotels in 2022. The restaurant holds 15 Gault Millau points. The owners converted an existing hotel into a personal alpine home they wanted to share — and that ethos shows.

The Capra is a 38-room five-star boutique lodge sitting at 1,806 m in Saas-Fee, one of the Swiss Alps' rare car-free villages. Wood-panelled walls, brushed tweeds, bespoke furnishings, and a lighting concept built around 'fire and ice' make the place feel like a seriously well-designed private chalet — not a corporate hotel. The Peak Health Spa, a 700 m² purpose-built wellness facility, is genuinely the hotel's crown jewel.
