The Berkeley is a 5-star Maybourne hotel sitting at the corner where Knightsbridge fades into Belgravia, with Hyde Park practically across the street. It doesn't compete with Claridge's or The Connaught on heritage and ceremony — and it doesn't try to. The play here is contemporary design, a roster of world-class designers who each shaped a different room or suite, and a food-and-drink scene that keeps Londoners coming back even if they're not staying. Cédric Grolet — arguably the world's most famous pastry chef — runs his only London patisserie here, and the heated rooftop pool remains one of the very few in the city.
