Why It Matters
Described by media as a 'gleaming midcentury masterpiece,' The Astro has been featured in Vogue, GQ, Goop, Sunset Magazine, and The Points Guy. It was born out of the SOFA arts scene by chef Liza Hinman's team and opened early in 2017 to house fire evacuees during the North Bay wildfires — a detail that says a lot about who runs the place.
A 1963 motor lodge reborn as a 34-room mid-century modern boutique motel after a $10 million renovation in 2017. Owned and operated by the team behind The Spinster Sisters restaurant, it sits on the edge of Juilliard Park in Santa Rosa's SOFA arts district. Every room is furnished with vintage pieces sourced at auctions — no two are identical — and the former parking lot is now a lush courtyard with fruit trees and sculptures.
