Lisbon
Residential-luxe palácio. Eclectic antiques and bespoke furniture in natural tones of white, gold, and green. Light-filled, botanically-influenced, quiet. The kind of place that makes you slow down without trying.
Ask for a room with a private terrace — morning light on the Tagus from up there is worth the upgrade
Why It Matters
Only nine rooms in a meticulously restored 19th-century Lapa mansion, designed top-to-bottom by Rose Fournier. Selected by the Michelin Guide. Sister to the celebrated Riad Tarabel in Marrakech. No bar, no gym — maximally intimate by design. Rooms from €400, Tarabel Suite at €1,360, and the whole place can be privatized for €7,840 a night. Breakfast is included in all rates.
A restored 19th-century palácio in Lapa — Lisbon's quietest, most diplomatic neighbourhood — with nine individually designed rooms and suites, all trained on the River Tagus. French interior designer Rose Fournier (of sister property Riad Tarabel in Marrakech) sourced the antiques, commissioned the custom azulejo tiles, chose the Pierre Frey fabrics, and made the whole place feel like a very stylish friend's house. Adults-only, no TVs, no bar, no gym — just a jade-green pool, tiered gardens, and a dining room where chef Afonso Blazquez Raposo cooks seasonal Portuguese.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Lunch and drinks can be served in the garden or on terraces at request. A full-on river view, no road noise, jacaranda overhead.
Small, hands-on team who offer genuine local tips, arrange restaurant bookings around Lapa and the wider city, and can help organise private transfers and excursions.
Curated bookshelves throughout the living areas. Guests are encouraged to treat the house like a home — grab a book, curl up on a sofa. Rose Fournier's own book Creative Tables (published by Assouline) is on the shelf.
The jade-green heated pool in the private terraced gardens is the social heart of the hotel in warm weather. Sun loungers with yellow cushions, striped parasols, day-beds, and a jacaranda for shade. Staff deliver light bites and drinks directly to the poolside.
