Sora Niwa Terrace Kyoto Bettei is the elite wing of the Sora Niwa Terrace complex — a Japanese-modern small hotel where every single one of the 30 rooms has its own private open-air hot spring bath on a terrace overlooking the city. Opened in June 2022 right next to Hankyu Kyoto-Kawaramachi Station, it sits in the heart of Kyoto's main shopping and entertainment district, with Gion a short walk across the Kamo River. The largest room type in the Bettei, a spacious corner room with windows facing both east and south. The naguri-carved wood floor hits you as soon as you walk in — a traditional Japanese carpentry technique that gives the room texture and warmth. Outside, your own private open-air hot spring terrace. Fits up to 3 guests with sofa bed. Floor options range from 2nd to 8th floor; higher floors (8th floor Kamogawa corner) get the best views.

About 60 minutes with hotel staff, the proprietress, or an occasional guide covering Kyoto culture and history in the surrounding Gion and Higashiyama district. Requires reservation; availability depends on staff schedules.
Hands-on craft session making accessories — hair ornaments, necklaces — from mizuhiki, the decorative paper cord used in traditional Japanese gift-giving. Takes 30–50 minutes. Materials from ¥500.
Create your own kodo-inspired incense sachet by selecting preferred fragrances. Takes about 30 minutes. Rooted in Japan's incense ceremony tradition dating to the Muromachi era. Materials cost ¥500.
A 30–40 minute morning yoga session at the nearby Kamogawa River with views of Higashiyama, led by wellness instructor Megumi Otani. Uses original tatami-and-Nishijin-brocade yoga mats made in Kyoto. May be canceled in bad weather.
Borrow an original Bettei Kamogawa-designed yukata robe and geta clogs (provided in-room) and walk Kyoto's streets. The hotel's location puts you steps from the Kamo River, Gion, Yasaka Shrine, and the Ninenzaka stone-paved lanes. The hotel even packages a small purse to carry with the yukata set.
