Solo Up rooms on floors 7–11 have the famous glass-walled showers and best city views, but they're genuinely small (12–20 m²) — great for solo travelers, awkward for couples sharing

Why It Matters

Finland's first skyscraper, opened 1931. The roof was originally rigged as a mooring point for the Graf Zeppelin airship — the passage still exists in the ceiling of Ateljee Bar. During WWII, the building served as a Soviet delegation HQ. Famous guests include Roger Moore, Jean Sibelius, and Lee Harvey Oswald (two nights in 1959, en route to attempt Soviet defection). Holds Green Key certification and Finland's Sustainable Travel badge.

Hotel Torni opened on March 19, 1931 as Finland's first skyscraper — designed by brothers Bertel and Valter Jung in a mix of Art Deco and Functionalism, inspired by 1920s American high-rises. It was the tallest building in Finland until 1976. The hotel completed a full renovation in spring 2022, but the bones are intact: 14 stories, a 1960s cocktail bar, the 1951 Ateljee rooftop bar (Helsinki's first), and a collection of original Finnish art spread across hallways and rooms. The adjoining Kyllikki wing, integrated in 1981, adds Jugend-style rooms with furniture designed by Eliel Saarinen. The whole place feels genuinely lived-in rather than museum-preserved.
