Nagatoyumoto
Contemporary Japanese minimalism meets onsen-town community hotel. Local red clay, stone, and wood throughout. Hagi ware ceramics, washi paper lamps, and mosquito-net curtains are all made by local artisans. The design philosophy embraces being an 'unfinished building' that grows with the town around it.
Onto hot spring is 30 seconds from the front door and free for all guests with no time limit — go multiple times a day
Why It Matters
One of the rare properties that genuinely removed its own bath infrastructure to send guests into the town's 600-year-old communal hot spring — a bold move that makes the town itself the amenity. It's a Tablet Hotels and Design Hotels member, and is bookable via Marriott Bonvoy. The hotel is developed and operated by Staple Inc., the same creative developer behind SOIL Setoda and SOIL Nihonbashi.
SOIL Nagatoyumoto opened in March 2025 inside a fully renovated six-story building that was formerly the Meiji-era Rokkakudo ryokan. The concept is simple but deliberate: instead of a private onsen in every room, guests walk 30 seconds to Onto, Yamaguchi's oldest public hot spring (600+ years), with access included and unlimited. Everything here orbits that bathing culture — the 6th-floor river-view sauna, the woodfire Italian restaurant TARU, and a ground-floor activity center with 14 locally rooted programs. It's a place for slowing down, not a luxury resort.

Visit the designated cultural property Hagi-yaki Fukagawa Ancient Kiln Ruins and artisan galleries. The same ceramics appear as in-room art and mugs throughout the hotel.
