Shaharut
Remote luxury desert retreat. Earthy, minimalist materials — rough stone, warm tadelakt plaster, reclaimed teak — meet polished Six Senses service. Quiet and intentional. Not a party spot. Think barefoot luxury with a strong ecological conscience and a very serious spa program.
Request one of the Panorama Pool Villas for the full cliff-edge views — the valley panorama at sunrise is the main event and worth upgrading for.
Why It Matters
Israel's most ambitious luxury desert resort, perched on a cliff above the Arava Valley with views stretching across the Edom Mountains to Jordan. The Private Reserve villa at 6,930 sq ft comes with its own 775 sq ft pool, spa treatment room, steam room, and ice bath. It is also the only LEED-certified hotel in Israel, with on-site water bottling, composting, and an Earth Lab where guests can learn about sustainability programs.
Six Senses Shaharut sits on a dramatic cliff edge in Israel's Negev Desert, its 60 suites and villas built from local stone, reclaimed teak, and sandy tadelakt plaster so they practically disappear into the landscape. The place was nine years in the making and cost owner Ronny Douek more than $130 million — and it shows. Every unit has a private outdoor terrace, most have a private pool, and the whole resort blends into the ancient desert topography with genuine architectural care. It is also the first hotel in Israel to earn LEED certification, hitting a 25 percent reduction in energy consumption and zero liquid discharge into the environment.
