Kagoshima
Contemporary Japanese-meets-Western design with deep local craft references. Think rammed-earth reception desks, Oshima Tsumugi textile motifs, Yakusugi cedar-inspired surfaces, and Satsuma Kiriko glass displays. Modern and warm, not stuffy.
Book a Club Room or Suite for Sheraton Club Lounge access: all-day refreshments and evening cocktails with Sakurajima views are genuinely good value.
Why It Matters
Sheraton's 150th Asia-Pacific property, and the region's first globally branded hotel. Jun Aizaki's CRÈME design firm transformed what could have been a generic chain property into something with genuine character rooted in Kagoshima's craft traditions and geology. It's also listed on both Tablet Hotels and the Michelin Guide hotel selection.
Kagoshima's first internationally branded hotel, opened in 2023, and it genuinely earns that title. Brooklyn-based, Japanese-born architect Jun Aizaki and his firm CRÈME designed the 228-room, 19-floor property — and the result is a Sheraton that punches well above the brand's usual weight. The lobby alone, a double-height atrium with a living green wall and murals by New York artists, makes you stop and look twice. Rooms start at a generous 35 sqm, the hot spring pulls natural sodium chloride water directly from the source, and the dining lineup is legitimately interesting rather than just serviceable.

How you'll actually spend your days.
The hotel runs a Gatherings by Sheraton program with scheduled social events and community programming. Monthly schedules are available via the hotel's Linktree.
The tram stop is roughly 1 minute on foot from the hotel, making it easy to reach Temmonkan shopping district, Kagoshima Castle (2.1 km), and Sengan-en Garden. The hotel concierge organizes restaurant and activity recommendations.
A sodium chloride spring with water flowing directly from the source. Includes indoor bath, outdoor bath, sauna, reclining relaxation chairs, and footbaths. Exclusive to hotel guests. Open 6am–12pm and 3pm–1am daily.
The Sakurajima ferry terminal is 10 minutes from the hotel. Day trips to the active volcano island are a natural extension of a stay here — the hotel's rooms and restaurants all face toward it, which makes it feel almost rude not to visit in person.
