Scribner's Catskill Lodge
Retro-modern mountain lodge. Think dark wood and white paint, vintage rugs, local artwork, and a circular fireplace in the library — cool without trying too hard. The Rounds feel like a different property entirely: minimal, sculptural, and genuinely secluded.
Book The Rounds months in advance — weekends sell out fast, especially for the Round Suites
Why It Matters
Named to Travel + Leisure's 2024 It List as one of the Top 100 Best New Hotels in the U.S. Chef Alejandro Reyes Herrera — formerly of Barcelona's three-Michelin-star Cocina Hermanos Torres — runs Prospect, the on-site restaurant. The Rounds cabins are unlike anything else in the Catskills: 12-sided geodesic structures with sunken conversation pits, oculus skylights, and outdoor soaking tubs that book out weeks in advance.
Built in 1966 and extensively reimagined starting in 2016 by Brooklyn-based Studio Tack, Scribner's Catskill Lodge is a design-forward mountain basecamp in Hunter, NY — roughly two hours from NYC. The main Lodge holds 38 rooms with dark maple floors, vaulted white ceilings, a firelit library, and a locally inspired restaurant. Further up the hill sit The Rounds: 11 architecturally striking luxury cabins, each a 12-sided structure with an oculus skylight for stargazing and a private Japanese soaking tub.
