Schgaguler Hotel
Contemporary Alpine minimalism with a Japanese/Scandinavian edge. White, blond wood, resin floors, Merino wool blankets. Artful without being cold. Family-run energy that shows.
Book the half-board dinner option — a 4-5 course menu curated by head chef Giuseppe Petrosino and sommelier Sandra Schgaguler is worth it
Why It Matters
Peter Pichler's 2018 architectural transformation turned an unremarkable chalet into an internationally acclaimed design property. It's a member of Design Hotels and featured in Vogue Paris, Wallpaper, Condé Nast Traveler, and Casa Vogue. The Falstaff Hotel Guide 2025 scored it 96/100.
A 1980s family hotel totally rebuilt from the inside out by Milan-based architect Peter Pichler, reopened in 2018 as one of the most architecturally striking properties in the Alps. The facade is a minimalist grid of white concrete and vast glass panels — recognizably Alpine in its peaked silhouettes, but unlike anything else in the Dolomites. Inside, the third-generation Schgaguler family runs the show: Loden armchairs, bespoke chestnut carpentry, large-format mountain photography by Martin Schgaguler, and a basement spa with two pools and a Finnish kelo-wood sauna. Small by design — 36 rooms and 6 suites — which means the service stays tight and personal.
