Why It Matters
First eco-beach resort in the Azores. Direct access to Santa Bárbara beach, one of São Miguel's best surf breaks. A 4,000m² on-site organic farm (including hydroponics and aeroponics greenhouses) supplies the restaurant. Chef André Fragoeiro's Tuna Wellington is already something of a signature. The whole property cost 10 years to develop and is owned by the same family behind White Exclusive Suites & Villas.
The Azores' first eco-beach resort, opened in 2015 by surfer and entrepreneur João Reis directly above the famous black-sand Santa Bárbara surf beach on São Miguel's north coast. Thirty low-profile studios and villas sit in grounds planted entirely with 4,000 native species, built from cryptomeria wood, cork and bamboo with interiors in soothing blues and greens against polished concrete. The farm-to-table restaurant, organic spa products and salvaged-material furnishings back up the eco credentials — this place actually lives the ethos rather than just marketing it.

Studios with direct private deck access to a shared saltwater lap pool. Views across the resort toward the beach or toward Serra da Lagoa do Fogo. Interiors in the resort's signature coastal palette — blues and greens against polished concrete. A big step up from the Garden category in terms of pool access.
Blue & Green Villa T1 (One-Bedroom)
One-bedroom villa with shared saltwater lap pool access from the terrace. Beach or mountain views. More living space than the studio, with a proper separate bedroom.
Blue & Green Villa T2 (Two-Bedroom)
Two-bedroom villa with shared saltwater lap pool access. Good for families or groups of four. Floor-to-ceiling windows and panoramic views. A few guests have specifically praised this category for family stays.
Garden Studio
Studios set in the lush resort garden with views of native plantings and endemic flora. Polished concrete floors, warm timber and bamboo accents. Sofa bed in the living area makes these a decent option for a solo traveller or couple travelling with one child. No direct pool access or ocean views from this category.
Garden Villa T1 (One-Bedroom)
One-bedroom villa in the garden zone. More space than the studio, with a separate bedroom and full kitchenette. Fragrant garden views with endemic plant species. Good for families or couples wanting a bit more room.
Garden Villa T2 (Two-Bedroom)
Two-bedroom villa in the garden area — the most practical layout for families. Private outdoor space, full kitchenette, and views of the manicured native-species gardens. Ideal for two adults and two children.
Retreat Studio
The most exclusive studio at the resort. Private Jacuzzi on the terrace with panoramic views over the property. Same compact footprint as other studios but that private hot tub changes the calculus for couples. Quieter and more secluded.
Retreat Villa T1 (One-Bedroom)
One-bedroom villa at the top of the Retreat category. Private Jacuzzi on the terrace with excellent views over the 3.3-acre property toward the ocean. The separate bedroom offers a meaningful upgrade in privacy over the Retreat Studio.
Retreat Villa T2 (Two-Bedroom)
The flagship accommodation. Two bedrooms, private Jacuzzi, the best views on the property. Recommended by Mr & Mrs Smith as the top pick for families. Floor-to-ceiling windows and a layout that works well for two couples or a family of four.

Bicycles available for rent at the resort for independent exploration of the surrounding coastline and hills.
Hiking, cycling, horse riding and quad-bike / off-road tours can be arranged. The hotel can also pack a chef's picnic to take along.
Canyoning tours can be arranged through the hotel on São Miguel.
A dedicated experience tailor service — guests share their interests and pace, and the team builds a bespoke programme for the stay. Named staff members Andreia and Heloísa run the service.

The resort sits directly above Santa Bárbara beach — one of São Miguel's most famous surf breaks and among the few black-sand beaches in the Azores with easy public access. Guests walk down from the property.
Guests receive a loaner mobile phone at check-in for messaging hotel staff and for navigation around São Miguel island.
