A gutted-and-reimagined 1950s motel, the Sands is Indian Wells' first and only true designer boutique hotel. AD Top 100 designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard went all-in on a Moroccan-meets-midcentury vision: pink stucco, black-and-white mosaic tile lobbies, palm-print wallpaper, and 46 rooms that each have their own distinct color palette and textile mix. Adults-only, small-scale, and refreshingly opinionated about what it wants to be.

Classic King
The entry-level room at 300 sq ft — compact but fully loaded with Bullard's signature touches. Each one has its own color combination, bespoke furniture, and custom textiles. Features Diptyque bath amenities, Waterworks brass fixtures, Carrara marble counters, Revival New York bed linens, full-size minibar with vintage crystal stemware, and Chromecast TV. Only some have a patio or balcony — if outdoor space matters, book up.
King
Deluxe Double Queen
The only two-bed configuration at the hotel, at 325 sq ft with two queen beds. Can accommodate up to three guests. Shares the same design sensibility and amenity level as other Deluxe rooms: Diptyque toiletries, Waterworks fixtures, Carrara marble, and the full minibar setup.

Deluxe King
At 350 sq ft, the Deluxe King is where things get more interesting. The signature oversized bathroom includes a separate soaking tub — the big upgrade here. There's also a dedicated seating area with a custom Moroccan-textile sofa and a full in-room bar setup (separate from the minibar). Good pick for anyone who wants the full design experience without going suite-level.

Junior Suite
At 400 sq ft, these are the largest non-presidential rooms on property. The real draw is the oversized outdoor patio with an outdoor soaking bathtub — a genuinely memorable feature. There are only two Junior Suites, each with its own signature color scheme, a large living area with full-size wet bar, and vintage crystal stemware. Good for a honeymoon or anniversary stay where ambiance matters.
King
Le Riad
The hotel's top room, named after the traditional Moroccan palace. At 1,000 sq ft across two stories with two outdoor patios and a balcony, it's in a different league. Full kitchen with Viking appliances, billiards table, professional dressing/makeup vanity, and an in-room soaking tub positioned at the foot of the master bed. Works well as a small event or entertaining space on top of being a suite.

Superior King
A step up from Classic at 325 sq ft, and the key difference is guaranteed outdoor space — every Superior King comes with a balcony or patio with plush outdoor seating. Rooms are distributed across first and second floors, some with mountain views toward the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto range. All the same Bullard fixtures and amenities as Classic.
