Sanctuary Beach Resort
Coastal-lodge hybrid. Low-slung bungalows, gas fireplaces in every room, binoculars on the nightstand, and a meditation garden near the dunes. Casual but polished — this isn't a party resort.
Go oceanfront deluxe over coastal view if budget allows — you're directly above the bonfire beach and the sunset views are worth the upgrade
Why It Matters
One of the only true beachfront resorts on Monterey Bay with direct private beach access and a legitimately acclaimed restaurant (Salt Wood Kitchen & Oysterette) on-site. Fully renovated in 2024 and part of the Independent Collection. Pet-friendly with a $50/night fee — and the beach access makes it a genuine dog-lover destination.
The Sanctuary Beach Resort sits on 19 acres of Pacific shoreline in Marina, California — tucked between Monterey Bay and the protected Marina Dunes Preserve. The address won't ring many bells, but that's the point: 60 bungalow-style rooms arranged along the beach, no neighbors to speak of, and dunes rising to 150 feet right outside. It's about 10 minutes from Carmel and Monterey but feels considerably further away from civilization. Think coastal-meets-lodge aesthetic, nightly bonfires, and a serious seafood restaurant on site.
