Why It Matters

One of the first eco-hotels in the San Genesio area, listed by Small Luxury Hotels of the World, Michelin, Tablet Hotels, and Gault Millau. The property sits on the largest interconnected larch meadow plateau in Europe, and its Forest Spa is 99% chemical-free, integrated directly into the spruce forest. Daily yoga, forest bathing, and meditation are included in the room rate — no extra charge.

Hotel Saltus is a fourth-generation, family-run eco-hotel that opened in its current form in 2019 at 1,100 metres above sea level on Europe's largest larch plateau, just 8 km from Bolzano. The Mumelter women — sisters Nadja and Claudia, plus their mother Hedwig — rebuilt the property around one idea: that the forest itself is the therapy. Rooms are built from local larch, porphyry stone, organic clay, and limestone; the aesthetic is minimal but warm. The rooftop 18-metre infinity Sky Pool with panoramic Dolomites views and the underground Forest Spa woven into the spruce trees are the two centrepiece draws.

Where You'll Stay

6 room types available

Dolomites Loggia
Standard Double Room

Dolomites Loggia

From EUR240 / night

The entry-level Dolomites-facing room at 35 sqm. Same natural material palette as the rest of the hotel — organic clay plaster, limestone floors, beeswax sealants — just in a more compact footprint. Still commands mountain views through the full window front. Good value relative to the suite categories if you mostly plan to be outside.

Forest Loggia

From EUR250 / night

A 35 sqm double room facing directly into the spruce forest. Sturdy pinewood trunks frame your view and the modest, natural interior pushes all attention outside. Oversized box spring beds, organic clay and lime plaster walls. The forest view rooms feel like an elevated treehouse — guests consistently rate these among their favourite features.

Forest Loggia Family

From EUR290 / night

A proper two-bedroom family suite at 73 sqm — two bedrooms, two balconies, two bathrooms, and a shared entrance hall. Forest-facing. The hotel's solution for families who want to stay together without cramming into a single room. At 73 sqm it's the largest footprint on offer.

Gran Dolomites Loggia
Deluxe Double Room

Gran Dolomites Loggia

From EUR275 / night

A 42 sqm deluxe double room with a full Dolomites-facing balcony and panoramic window front. The entire window wall opens to unobstructed mountain views — the chalk-white midday peaks give way to the famous red glow at sunset. Built with wood, linen, loam, and chalk. The larger footprint compared to the standard Dolomites Loggia makes this the more comfortable mid-tier choice.

Saltus Suite

From EUR350 / night

Clay walls, limestone flooring, and an oversized Simmons box spring bed (1.90m x 2.05m). Floor-to-ceiling windows and a spacious private terrace make the boundary between room and mountain feel genuinely thin.

Single Suite

From EUR320 / night

A 35 sqm suite designed for solo travelers or couples who want a more intimate, economical option. Western exposure means afternoon sun pours through the openable glazed windows.
