London
Edwardian grandeur with a contemporary British edge — quirky commissioned art, leather banquettes, marble mosaics, and a courtyard that softens the city the moment you walk in. Polished but never stuffy.
The Pie Hole takeaway hatch on the street lets you grab a handcrafted pie without setting foot in the hotel — worth knowing if you're passing by
Why It Matters
The building itself — a sensitively restored 1912 Edwardian landmark — does a lot of heavy lifting. But the culinary programme punches hard too: Holborn Dining Room and its famous Pie Room, Scarfes Bar (ranked #6 globally by Food & Wine), and an Art Afternoon Tea in the Mirror Room that people book just to experience. Forbes Travel Guide awarded it five stars. The Manor House suite is the only suite in the world with its own postcode.
A Grade II listed Edwardian building that spent its first century as the Pearl Assurance Company headquarters before being transformed into one of London's finest luxury hotels. The carriageway entrance, grand marble staircase and Holborn address — squarely between the City and the West End — give it a sense of place that newer builds simply can't manufacture. The 'modern manor house' concept plays out in art commissions, changing Gerald Scarfe caricatures at the bar, a dedicated pie kitchen, and one of London's largest gin collections.
