Mate Collection Mia, Rome Colosseum
Contemporary Roman boutique — renovated heritage building, Italian art, warm colors, relaxed rather than flashy. More design-forward than you'd expect at the price point, without tipping into pretentious.

Why It Matters
One of the closest hotels to the Colosseum with a rooftop terrace that actually overlooks it. Formerly the beloved Hotel Capo d'Africa, recently rebranded and renovated under the Room Mate Collection umbrella with new interior design by Luis García Fraile.
A former early-20th-century school building that's been turned into a sharp 4-star hotel sitting about 350 meters from the Colosseum. The facade is unassuming — a pair of palm trees and that's about it for curb appeal — but the interior, redesigned by Luis García Fraile under the Room Mate Collection rebrand, delivers warm ochre, sand, and saffron tones with high-ceilinged rooms and contemporary Italian art throughout. The lobby features a striking rubber-rose wall sculpture, 'Il cespuglio,' by Paolo Canevari. The rooftop terrace with Colosseum views is the hotel's standout feature, used for both breakfast and evening drinks.
