Rock Noir is a 4-star boutique hotel sitting practically on top of the Aravet gondola — 20 metres, to be exact — in the Serre Chevalier ski area of the French Alps. The design mixes blonde wood, velvet, furs and lava stone with a fireplace at the center of things, giving it a mountain-chic feel that works as well in summer as in ski season. Thirty-two rooms plus a standalone apartment, an in-house restaurant focused on local producers, a small spa with indoor pool and sauna, and a bar for après-ski. The hotel closes seasonally each spring (typically mid-April through early June) before reopening for summer.

The entry-level option and the most numerous — 14 of them. Compact but functional at a minimum of 16m², each has a queen bed, mountain views and a shower bathroom. No terrace. Non-air-conditioned. Good for couples who plan to spend most of their time on the slopes or out exploring.
