RoccaSeta
Rustic-refined Sicilian farmhouse. Think linen curtains lifting in the breeze, the smell of fresh bread from the kitchen, and an infinity saltwater pool framed by dry stone walls and maritime pine. Calm, intimate, and genuinely warm rather than slick or corporate.
Book dinner in advance — it's only available by reservation and fills up fast in peak season. Nonna's buffet is mainly vegetarian and everything is homemade.
Why It Matters
One of very few properties in this corner of Sicily that gets the formula exactly right: serious attention to design and food, genuine host hospitality (Nonna Ombretta cooks all meals), and a saltwater pool that looks straight out over the coast. Listed on Tablet Hotels and Sawday's Special Places. Scicli itself — a UNESCO World Heritage baroque city — is 8km away. The Inspector Montalbano TV series was filmed nearby.
RoccaSeta is a 12-room masseria built from honey-colored local stone, sitting in the hills just above Scicli with the Mediterranean visible on the horizon. Owners Cinzia and Dario Pautasso — who came from the very north of Italy in search of slower living — painstakingly rebuilt it from original stone before opening it as a boutique hotel. Reed-and-timber ceilings, carved wooden bedheads, hand-painted tiles, and muted tones throughout give it the feel of a very stylish family home rather than a hotel.
