Rhode's Motor Lodge
Mid-century modern motor lodge meets mountain camp. Drive-up ground-floor rooms sit alongside balconied upper-floor units. The lobby fireplace (terracotta tile, freestanding), Adirondack chairs, outdoor fire pits under string lights, pool table, and cornhole in the courtyard set a laid-back, social tone. Nothing fussy. Everything intentional.

Why It Matters
MICHELIN-certified boutique property in a market with almost no serious independent hotel competition. The name riffs on rhododendron — not a gimmick, just a nod to the bloom that carpets the surrounding mountains each spring. Loden Hospitality's second revitalization project after the well-regarded Longleaf Hotel in Raleigh.
Rhode's Motor Lodge is the second act of a 1950s Boone roadside motel — formerly Greene's Motel — completely gutted and reimagined by Raleigh-based Loden Hospitality and opened in October 2023. All 54 rooms face south toward rolling Blue Ridge Mountain views, and the whole place leans hard into mid-century modern without feeling like a theme park: original starshine breeze blocks were uncovered during renovation, tree trunk nightstands, tent-light pendant fixtures, and branded Coleman coolers give rooms a cabin-camp feel that actually works. MICHELIN-certified and covered in Garden & Gun and Travel + Leisure, it's the rare property where the on-site restaurant is genuinely worth planning around.
