Resotel Salamanca
Maximalist motorsport design — neon-heavy orange-and-blue palette, wall-to-wall racing memorabilia, playful details like colored toilet paper and rubber duckies in the bathrooms, but all grounded in genuinely quality fixtures (Alessi, Rituals, Nespresso, Gaggenau, Smeg).
Check in at the petrol station shop — it's not immediately obvious, but the same staff handle fuel, groceries, and hotel check-in.
Why It Matters
Listed in both the Michelin Guide and Tablet Hotels — remarkable for a 2-star property above a petrol station. Juan Carlos built it entirely himself over years, and the result is one of Spain's most singular boutique hotels. It consistently outperforms its official category, with guests repeatedly calling it 4-star service at 2-star prices.
A technicolor, motorsports-themed 11-room boutique hotel built on top of a working Repsol gas station on the outskirts of Salamanca. Owner Juan Carlos inherited the station from his parents and transformed it, floor by floor, into this racing-obsessed passion project. Framed F1 and Moto GP photos, engine parts, a motorbike mounted on the stairwell wall, a petrol pump in the lobby — it doubles as an informal racing museum. And yet the service is exceptional, the rooms are seriously well-equipped, and the whole operation is run with a warmth that makes you want to come back.

How you'll actually spend your days.
A dedicated green bicycle lane runs from the hotel directly into Salamanca's UNESCO-listed old city, about 15 minutes each way. The hotel has secure bicycle storage and a repair station. A genuinely pleasant way to reach the Plaza Mayor.
Juan Carlos and team will map out local running and walking routes in the Villares de la Reina area on request. They also give recommendations for visiting Salamanca, onward hotels in Porto or elsewhere, and regional attractions.
Not a formal attraction but genuinely worth treating as one. Four floors of framed racing photos, newspaper articles, engine parts, a petrol pump, a motorbike mounted on the stairwell wall, and F1/Moto GP memorabilia. Guests consistently describe it as a small museum. Just wander the corridors.
Top floor terrace with a small outdoor swimming pool, open in summer. Views stretch across to Salamanca's skyline. Complimentary for all hotel guests. Small pool — don't arrive expecting a full resort pool — but on a hot afternoon with sunset views, it punches well above its size.
