Resort Fontes Episcopi
Rustic Sicilian agriturismo meets thoughtful wellness retreat. Stone floors, antique furniture, muted tones, and handmade details throughout. Communal dining is the social heart of the place — guests eat together and often cook together. The pace is intentionally slow.

Why It Matters
One of very few working organic farm resorts in inland Sicily where the kitchen is genuinely farm-to-table — same-day harvested produce, stone-milled ancient-grain pasta (Perciasacchi, Bidi, Russello, Timilia), and housemade organic cosmetics used in the spa. The resident chef Magdalena runs cooking classes that guests consistently call the highlight of their stay.
A 19th-century Sicilian nobleman's mansion — gifted by Baron Ignazio Genuardi to his son Gerlando, who went on to become a bishop — has been carefully restored into a small, slow-travel bio-resort with 7 rooms in the main house and 4 standalone bungalows. The Tedesco family runs it as a working organic farm: vegetables from the garden go straight to the kitchen, heritage-grain pasta is milled on-site, and the soap in your bathroom is made from estate-grown botanicals. It sits 12 km from the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, surrounded by olive groves with the eerie Macalube mud-volcano nature reserve just 2 km up the road.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Hands-on classes starting from milling heritage Sicilian grains (Perciasacchi, Bidi, Russello, Timilia) through to making pasta, bread in the wood-fired oven, and traditional dishes like 'cuddiruna' (Sicilian pizza with anchovies and local cheese). Other guests eat what you cook for dinner. Repeatedly cited as the trip highlight in reviews.
Free bikes available to explore the surrounding countryside and cycle tracks.

Horseback riding in the surrounding area, available through the resort.
Structured 'farmer for a day' experiences — gardening, harvesting almonds, olives, legumes, and vegetables from the estate garden. Based on 15+ years of hortotherapy research. Guests can then cook what they've harvested in the resort kitchen.
